The #1 mood killer in romance, for me, is when the love interest has absolutely no reason to like the protagonist. It just unravels the whole thing. Of course romance is often about a "normal" person and a more fantastical person (billionaire, vampire, succubus who only fricks 30 year old virgins, etc), but you need to be an decent writer to sell why your main character could be appealing to another person. It doesn't have to be "be hot" but give me something to work with.
This isn't just me bitching about foid nonsense either, I feel the same about badly done wish fulfillment for men
