: Not at all. There's literally a plot about an neurodivergent having a relationship with an imaginary foid
I had someone go off about it at work. Apparently it's scifi for the normies with all the problematic scifi taken out of it.
Edit: all you neurodivergents have had your brains rotted by Burger culture war bullshit. Problematic means 'creates problems'- like problems understanding or problems appealing to a mainstream audience.
Fair. There is some very interesting high-concept scifi, but it's true that it isn't very well-rooted in real science and it stays away from technobabble
For Russian novels it's because they were originally published piecemeal in periodicals rather than as cohesive units. Also they were paid by the word so lots of padding.

Honestly I read it and it seemed to talk about a lot of physics concepts and then explained them really well, I kept expecting for there to be something involving some neurodivergent obscure field of science, but no, it just takes things we kind of understand, extrapolates them, and then makes all the main characters scientists who use technology to 'save' the day. (There are like 4 or so sequels.)

Netflix sucks, there's supposedly already a pretty good Chinese(I think?) adaptation out. Haven't read or watched either, but @Gohan_Rojo would go with that if you want to.

Do you like the book series? They sound pretty boring too @Gohan_Rojo so @Gohan_Rojo haven't watched either, just wondering if it's boring or a bad adaptation too you

The book is kind of boring since most of it is just setup to explain what the frick is actually going on. It's written like a mystery novel though, so by the end it all gets explained so the climax can make sense. Cliffhanger ending though.

As long as you're aware that you can predict orbits in space with math and have an idea that quantum physics means "small particles like protons interacting in funny ways across space and time" you can read it and understand it. The book itself basically explains itself, it's like it writes its own plot synopsis halfway through that gives you the full breakdown.

All 3 books are great. While all 3 continue a main storyline, they're all thematically different enough to be distinct and stay compelling.
Netflix adaptation will be dogshit as is tradition.

I liked the books. Some good original ideas. Reads kind of weird what with the translation but it's not a deal breaker.

The prose is strange, but apparently the author is just a Chinese megaboomer who writes like that in his native tongue

The word 'problematic' existed before 2012. I could have said 'difficult to understand'.

Good book but just like when reading russian novels you need to keep a character sheet on hand

Why is it that for some reason a lot of 'great' literature turns out to be newspaper 'slop made to bang out a quick buck?

@KinoBushido is on Book 2
Book 1 could be adapted. The main actor is B.D. Wong, one of @KinoBushido's favorite tv actors ever.
Idk how they're gonna do book 2 lol
