Stephen King. Wrote some decent stuff 30-40 years ago, has been coasting on that reputation since at least the 2000s and jeeps churning out drivel to critical acclaim.
Never should have got clean, it was the drugs and alcohol that made his writing bearable

One thing I've noticed is that modern King just can't write good beginnings to a novel. It ends up feeling like him prancing about to show off something that's irrelevant to the actual story.

What I noticed more and more is he went from writing kind of pulpy horror stories that occasionally made social commentary to advocating for the current thing and trying to tie all his bugbears together into a story while making sure everyone knows how much he supports the current thing.
