Stephenson can't end a book to save his life. It's like he starts all his projects with a page limit, gets 95% of the way there while only telling the first half of the story, and then decides to cram the second half in ten pages. Cryptonomicon was his biggest offender in this regard.

It's very noticeable, isn't it! I thought The Diamond Age was worse for it than Cryptonomicon, but he damp squibs and it's frustrating.
