What's a good "classic novel" that is slightly more obscure enough that I wouldn't already have read or at least had a vague knowledge of the plot already

I really enjoyed White Noise by Delillo but I also read it during the pandemic so that might've helped

Do you enjoy short tales?

I'm reading a Chekov's collection (Penguin editions), they're very simple and well written.

And if you like Russian literature, Nabokov recommended "Petersburg" by Andrei Bely which I haven't read yet.
