There are more libertarians in the catholic church than in any number of denominations of protestantism, and protestants never defend the libertarians legally after they're caught, so even in error catholics typically chose the worst outcomes they can.

The whining this site does about the heckin Protestants is hilarious. Ignoring the theology of it because who cares, the simplest counter argument is to just look at the world for five seconds.
Every Catholic country without exception is poor and destitute and filled with people who desperately want to live somewhere else. Best case scenario is a useless country like Spain or Italy with no economic activity and too many old people. Worst case would be the Philippines or one of many interchangeable Central American shitholes.
Meanwhile the historically Protestant nations of the Commonwealth and the good old USA are the wealthy and developed countries all the actual tradcaths are desperate to move to.
And Catholicism has always been the immigrant religion. One hundred plus years ago it was Irish, Italians, and Poles. Now it's Venezuelans, Guatemalans, and other not-even-Mexicans any more.
And across this vast stretch of time and in spite of their many points of origin, these Catholic origin immigrants have universally been violent and rapacious barbarians who could be shot to a man without costing this country a thing. Blaming the economic malaise of Southern Europe on catholicism is ridiculous. Southern Europe was historically a prosperous region while Northern Europe lagged behind, in fact, excepting Britain and the Benelux region, Northern Europe lagged behind up until the late 19th century. Latin America is not a good example either as the economical lag is due to extractive institutions being placed during the colonial period. The 13 colonies in North America were settler colonies while the Spanish virreinatos were basically separate realms with a common monarchy whose main purpose was resource exploitation in favor of the Metropole. That's something !neolibs can attest.
