Honestly, it's very complicated! It's all the sheet we deal with in western countries (higher standards of living, women having equal rights, etc) combined with some really odd cultural bullsheet. And it's not just a Japanese thing, it's basically all of Asia... South Korea went from a poor country in the 60s with a birth rate of over 4.0 to a rich country in the 2000s onwards with a birth rate that is lower than Japan... A lot of brainlets think it's mainly due to being overworked but this has been proven to only increase the issue by a small amount.
Either Japan lets in in high numbers every year (never gonna happen) or they just got to accept that they are gonna have huge labour shortages and as a result less wealth, higher retirement age, etc. Although one silver lining is automation, robotics and the rise of A.I. However, they're not quite there yet obviously. Who knows, maybe a miracle happens
