Doesnt it just say that since they were primarily enslaved on farms and when they were freed they were able to utilize those skills to get by? Like if you got drafted into Vietnam and experienced horror and tragedy, but when you came back to the US you were able to benefit from your gained knowledge on good vietnamese quizine?
