lol this is absolutely not an environmental issue. Low cost airlines absolutely btfo the traditional ones back in the day and they've been keen ever since to be able to do something to put them out of business.

I was just talking to a euro who was gloating over air travel there and sure enough I checked and it is amazingly cheap. Guess macron heard.

They tried it in other places as far as I heard but people just didn't like not having TV screens and meals and so on and considered those worth the extra cost. Which is kind of odd to think about tbh. Cheap airline food is not worth paying €100 extra for.

Yeah i prefer a dining cart on my domestic flights. Get hungry in the airport waiting and I already buy a snack. By the time we are in air im absolutely starvola and usually need another snack if meals arent delivered promptly. Its worth the convenience even if its a lot more money.

Ur not allowed to bring it into the gate. I do eat a lot on the way and have a big breakfast

No dude, you honestly can. I say this as someone who has always brought snacks ever since ending up in a ten hour flight delay.
As long as you're not bringing liquids like soup or whatever, you're fine to bring food through TSA security. Never had an issue with bringing anything I bought in the post-security food court on board either. So, picnic it up.

Ok ill try again. Maybe it was because there was a ton of jam and honey.

Yeah they probably considered the honey a liquid. Just make a regular ham and cheese, or buy a sandwich after security to take on board and you'll be good.

You're probably too young to remember this, but shit like the ValuJet crash turned much of a generation against super budget airlines too. Something about dying in the Florida swamplands because repairs were done with duct tape made a lot of people more willing to shell out extra for major airlines for life.

The real problem is that Europe allows foreign airlines to compete with domestic ones, but American doesn't. So US airlines jack up the price. Weirdly the only industry where Europe is more deregulated than America

Much of the time it's not actually that cheap, behind the sticker price are dozens of "fees" for everything imaginable. Actually getting onto the plane for the advertised price is an art form.

Not really tho? Extra price is usally for seat choice, and extra luggage. You can definitly get the advertised price if you dont care where you sit and travel lightly.

It's been getting worse. There are now fees to check-in (outside a specific 1 hour window on their app), print passes, bring any hand luggage at all, etc.

I haven't seen fees for personal items ever.
I also haven't seen arbitrarily narrow check in times and fees. Usually the fees are just for checking in at the airport, to incentive people to not need kiosks.

My general impressions of budget airlines is that they are fine if you are going to only be in a place for a day or two and can fit everything into a backpack and carry it on as a personal item, which is usually free.
My local airport has Allegiant with direct flights to Florida and Vegas and I have used them a couple times for weekend trips.
With kids and being at a place for a few days at that point I would probably just go with a mainstream carrier, though.

Yeah, over in Europe the budget airlines have slowly been shrinking the free baggage allowance down to nothing. Every year the maximum size before paying gets smaller.
Couple that with the endless hoops to jump through to avoid other fees and the whole thing becomes a false economy.

Yes, I saw you admission of being a fatass
But, idk if its always the case, but at least some of these airlines offer food that you can buy on flight
Jump in the discussion.

The quality of the meals vary greatly from one airline to another and some dont even offer meal service if the flight is less than 1 hr. Besides, have u ever tried flagging down an attendant to pay for another snack course? Its awkward.

Yeah normal people can live without stuffing food down their throat for a few hours. Also no airline food is of several hundred dollars quality, so its never worth paying more for a flight
