Phenylephrine is everywhere and every nasal decongestant contains it

Only in cucked countries that banned pseudoephedrine.

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

I worked with a few people addicted to it. Literally couldn't breath without some sniff everyday.

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

I got addicted to the oxymetazoline sprays. Thought i just had persistent allergies but eventually realized it was the spray.

You use the spray, blood vessels constrict, you breathe easier. But your nasal membrane is oxygen-deprived during that time so when the spray wears off, your membrane swells ( ) as a healing response. So you get stuffy and use the spray again.

It was a nightmare of a weekend breaking the cycle.

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

I'm completely dependent on oxymetazoline. How did you go about breaking the habit?

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

Cold turkey. A shitty weekend of being unable to breathe. The first night was the worst but by Sunday night I could breathe well enough to sleep.

I had been using it pretty consistently for maybe 18 months or so.

This is a deeply unsatisfying answer (I would have liked to have been handed some magic trick to get through it), but at least the timeframe is bearable. It's not like I'm giving up heroin or something.

Jump in the discussion.

Flonase is safe to use, but it's more of a "use once a day, effect takes 2-3 weeks to settle in".

Maybe some vicks vaporub to help decongest during the weekend?

As someone with Sinus issues I've known this for decades at this point. Pseudoephedrine is really the only thing I've found that works for fairly quick relief. Like yea Zyrtec and Claritin can help used regularly but if you need relief now PE is where it's at

I know that's the meme, but literally the only thing I'm allergic to is fescue and I'm exposed to large amounts of it basically every day my entire life. Exposure does nothing for allergies.

Xylometazoline hydrochloride works pretty well too. Similar effect to pseudo, without the fun.

The only way I can survive is a claritin and nasal spray as soon as I wake up and a little exercise to clear it up.

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

See my earlier comment, that nasal spray is addictive as heck if it's the generic "nasal decongestant" stuff. Flonase is ok though

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

I took Flonase back when it was a pharmacy only drug. All it did was dry out my nose so badly I ended up with a nosebleed so bad I had to go to the doctor. At least it smelled nice.

Frick, here I was thinking I was mostly over my allergies and I just realized it's the adderall. I guess the allergy tests my PCP ordered to bilk my insurance were right.

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

>Phenylephrine

Decade-old studies showed it was no better than placebo, why does anyone buy it?

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

Because you can't buy real pseudoephedrine if you need it outside of pharmacy business hours, plus it gets shoved into combination cold medicines* that used to contain pseudoephedrine before the restrictions

*I assume this is what the article means by Benadryl

There's also that shit they add that starts with a G, like gaustofin or something, that they only put in to make you sick if you take too much. The biggest r-slurred pothead cute twink in the dorm wing told me this 25 years ago and I assume it's still true

I haven't robotripped in years but I've noticed none of the chain stores carry unadulterated instant release DXM hbr anymore (aka plain brand Robitussin). All you can get now is extended release DXM polistirex (brand Delsym, it works but you're tripping for almost an entire day), or instant release DXM hbr mixed with guaifenesin and/or acetaminophen.

Don't all these drugs containe one of the main ingredients to making meth?

I know my local drug stores all refused to stock it due to that. They always kept getting robbed

So do they actuslly not work or is this some bs attempted to curb cooking meth?

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

The drug the article is talking about (phenylephrine) was introduced as an alternative to the meth-ingredient-drug (pseudoephedrine).

You can't make meth with phenylephrine, which is why companies started using it instead of pseudoephedrine for OTC drugs (under legal threat from the government). You can still buy (limited quantities of) pseudoephedrine at pharmacies that stock it, but it's kept in the back with the controlled drugs and you have to show ID to the pharmacist.

The problem is, phenylephrine does not work at all. It's as effective as a sugar pill. There have been studies proving this going back decades, and anybody with allergies that has tried both knows this from experience. Unfortunately, the only one that works is the meth one.
