Towards the end of the article it talks a lot more about how people are consuming older media rather than new media, like old books and shows over new books and shows.

While it fits into the theme of “lonely people want more nostalgic media”, it seems like it isn't purely caused by that because of how young people are consuming media they shouldn't have nostalgic feelings for. Why are the Zoomers and Gen Alpha watching Friends and Seinfeld? Unless they are having nostalgia implanted in them, the simplest explanation is that new media sucks butt.

Looking back on older media is looking with a filter. No one is rewatching the shitty shows from back in the day

My friends are always like “you have to see this new show severance” or “hacks” or “the other two” or “Ted lasso” and I give them a shot and they're all just mid at best. Yeah just cause apple spent a lot of money on it and it has some Star you're familiar with attached to it doesn't mean it's worth my time. Nothing made today has any heart, it's all too concerned with including progressive messaging and diversity and appealing to the tastes of Twitter people. I'm not saying these things can't be in a show and it still be good; they just don't actually add anything of value to the product. And when so much focus and attention is spent on these modern triflings over story and characters and acting etc. it ultimately hurts the art.

TLDR get woke go broke

Not a zoomer but this is how it is for me, 99% of new shit is trash. There might be a gem here or there but why bother when plenty of old shit has stood the test of time? If I haven't seen it, it's new to me.
