It's probably true that being richer will give you access to more opportunities, but these articles always give the impression of seething jealously. Most people are average and won't leave a culture defining impact on this world and that's ok. Not everyone can be greatest at whatever passion they choose to pursue and some might just be unlucky and never heard. But that doesn't mean you just give up and blame everyone else, just continue to pursue your hobbies for your own self fulfillment.

While there is no paper application to become a successful novelist, there are de facto requirements for the position which nobody who is serious about succeeding in literature can ignore. It's usually not enough to be highly educated: you must become entrenched so as to become known within higher education. This means obtaining an MFA or a PhD. It means nominees work as college faculty.

I also dislike this statement. With google you can find almost any textbook, journal article, and even learning program for free! You have access to almost all of the same higher educational material, but just without the instructor and class structure (But even for class structure you can find recordings or syllabi of classes and follow those own your own). The world can be yours with the right mindset
