I think the best take about this was: regardless of what you think on the issues, these people's congressional testimony showed that they were unprepared and ill equipped.
The questions they got were fricking obvious and the Uni presidents hemmed and hawwed and looked like idiots.
That's reason enough to fire them.
Like, if you're head of an elite academic institution, don't look like a fricking r-slur on national TV.
If you do, then expect to be replaced by someone who doesn't do that.

Yeah, my reccolection at the end was that it's ambiguous as to whether the kid was successful. Also the film doesnt seem to really have a straightforward goodguy/badguy dynamic. The movie is about obsession the protaginist is obsessed with being the best drummer, and the teacher is obsessed with having a perfect jazz ensemble. Both of them dont care about anything else, particularly the people they hurt/let down along the way.
