I do think this is actually happening sometimes. It's not all transbian computer science majors. I know a feminine gay guy who is strongly considering transitioning (dropping not subtle "hints") because of a variety of reasons. I'm gonna call him X.

Reason 1 is he thinks it will improve his social life. X believes that more people would like him as a feminine woman rather than a feminine man. He was ostracized in highschool for being very obviously gay and he has very homophobic parents who he thinks will like him better as a straight woman than as a gay man. He has friends now that he's been to college but he drives most of them away because he has main character syndrome and is a self centered jerk. But he still believes that this wouldn't happen if he was a woman.

Reason 2 is his s*x life. X thinks that straight couples are inherently hotter and that he would have access to hotter men as a woman. He was very upset when a mutual friend of ours told him he wouldn't consider fricking trans women. That there were things transitioning doesn't change and that the surgeries aren't very good.

Reason 3 is he is delusional about what being a woman means. He thinks that being into fashion and acting sassy means that he has a woman's brain and that he currently acts just like a woman. He doesn't act like any woman I've met, he acts like a flamboyant homosexual. I've come to learn that his idea of what women act like is entirely based on 1980s tv shows (Remington Steele is his favorite). He literally thinks he's more of a woman than his female sister "She's got the parts, but she doesn't have the heart" is a phrase he often uses that I find disturbing. He thinks he's a better woman this own sister because she's mean and isn't into fashion history.

He's very fricked up mentally and I feel bad for him. I wouldn't care if he transitioned but if he does he will be very disappointed in the end result.

Remington Steele always did seem a little gay to me, better add this to my list of things that are officially gay.
