Trump Says Mitch McConnell Has a ‘Death Wish’ During Racist Meltdown

Time to kick back, watch a little TV, and casually threaten the Senate Minority Leader on your website. ""He has a DEATH WISH,” Donald Trump wrote on Truth Social of Republican Sen. “Is McConnell approving all of these trillions of dollars worth of Democrat-sponsored bills, without even the slightest bit of negotiation, because he hates Donald J. .

In 2017 Trump lambasted McConnell after the senate failed to secure passage of a bill that would partially repeal the Affordable Care Act, and the relationship between the two giants of the Republican Party has remained tenuous. "In recent weeks, Trump has vented to some confidants that if Republicans fail to take back both the House and Senate in the 2022 midterms, the ex-president expects "all these fricking RINOs” to blame him for any GOP high-profile losses, according to a person with direct knowledge of this grievance. Nicaraguan President Ortega said his government does not want relations with an "interventionist government" Nicaragua severed all diplomatic ties with the Netherlands on Friday, according to a statement released by the government. The Nicaraguan Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the country faced "repeated meddling" and the "interventionist and neocolonialist" position of the Netherlands and decided to "immediately discontinue diplomatic relations.  He also said he would support "all economic and diplomatic cowtools to bring about a change in direction in Nicaragua" including excluding the country from the Dominican Republic-Central America Free Trade Agreement. "The tensions between the countries escalated after the Dutch ambassador for Central America, Christine Pirenne, informed the government that the European nation would not be funding a hospital promised long ago. The government said it withdrew its approval of the new ambassador after he made "disrespectful" comments in a hearing before the Senate.  Ortega had accused the church of backing the 2018 protests which started against planned welfare cuts by his government but spiraled into a wider protest against him.

Tensions escalated after the Netherlands informed Nicaragua that it would not be funding a hospital promised long ago. Hugo had called Nicaragua a "pariah state," labeling Ortega's government a "dictatorship." On Wednesday, the Central American country declared the European Union ambassador, Bettina Muscheidt, "persona non grata" without specifying a reason. This development came hours after the Central American country refused entry to the new US ambassador. President Daniel Ortega lashed out at this news and said, "The ambassador came to speak to Nicaraguans as if Nicaragua is a Dutch colony. " It said the European country "offended and keeps offending Nicaraguan families. Earlier on Friday, Nicaraguan Vice President Rosario Murillo, Ortega's wife, said that US envoy Hugo Rodriguez would not be allowed to enter the country.

Officials said they now have more information regarding a UVM student who was robbed at gunpoint in the early morning hours of Sept. 17.

Police said that three men wearing masks, including some using t-shirts as masks, approached the victim, with one of them using a firearm to threaten him.

Officials said the men then forced the victim to disrobe and stole his clothing and personal property before fleeing.

Further investigation helped police to identify the suspects involved and arrest them on charges of assault and robbery.

Two of the suspects, 22-year-old Zafer Suliman and 23-year-old Latavious Elam, both of Williston, are active Air Force members. Police determined that Elam was the suspect who threatened the victim with a firearm during the incident. He is being held without bail.

The other two suspects, including 24-year-old Michael Chea of Winooski, have been released following their arraignments on Thursday.

Aron DoSouto has been doing drag in Saskatchewan for more than 25 years. Now, he's increasingly finding it difficult to book venues.

"They want a slender Barbie doll who will look good in a pair of underwear and a bra," said DoSouto, who performs under the drag name Iona Whipp.

As a gender fluid person, DoSouto does not find himself aligning with the well-entrenched body ideals for gay men, which he described as "chiselled, built and butch or bone-thin skinny twink."

https://i.rdrama.net/images/16841358523474803.webp

Aron DoSouto says there is a constant need to be skinnier within the LGBTQ community and that both event planners and audience expect thinner queens. (Submitted by Aron DoSouto)

The 43-year-old Saskatoon resident said that while the media pressure to conform to certain beauty standards for LGBTQ people has long existed, partly due to the influence of "porn, erotica and films," shows like RuPaul's Drag Race have further perpetuated them. DoSouto said he's recently received backhanded comments during shows about his appearance, including his weight.

"Many of us queens come from theatre — the old school where it was about selling the song — but nowadays there's this constant need and push all about being skinnier and real thin," he said.

Though RuPaul's Drag Race features plus-size artists, DeSouto said their involvement still does not seem to be boosting their popularity or demand for bookings outside of the show.

"It's a big thing affecting our community. If event organizers are willing to shell out the money, they will bring RuPaul girls in who can show a bare, slender midriff, instead of supporting the local community."

Narrow beauty standards can have serious impacts on body image for LGBTQ people, who already face higher rates of eating disorders and other mental illnesses. Further fuelling fears of not being accepted over their identity or orientation, some people can go to dangerous lengths to look a certain way.

'Negative reinforcement that I'm not enough'

Moose Jaw, Sask., resident Ell Bird grew up around "toxic ideas about body image."

"Those standards entrenched in patriarchy are carried over in the queer community," said Bird, who identifies as two-spirit and gender-queer.

One example: androgyny (combining masculine and feminine characteristics) is often presented as a "neutral colour palette or square cuts of clothing," said Bird, and that stems from trends among cisgendered men.

"I have often been told to not wear loud colours," they said.

https://i.rdrama.net/images/16841358535688193.webp

Ell Bird says they often encounter pressure for their plus-size body to be an hourglass shape, which they say comes from heterosexual beauty standards. (Submitted by Ell Bird)

A desire for plus-size bodies to be an hourglass shape also draws from heterosexual beauty standards.

It makes Bird feel excluded. They said coming across dating profiles in the past with fatphobia listed as "personal preferences" triggered the binge-eating disorder they have struggled with since childhood.

"I'm getting that negative reinforcement that I'm not enough."

'Fear of being fat and the consequence of isolation'

Several studies have found that eating disorders and disordered eating behaviours are more common among LGBTQ adults and teenagers than people who are heterosexual and/or cisgender.

Phillip Joy, a registered dietician and assistant professor at Mount Saint Vincent University in Halifax, said LGBTQ people experience higher body image pressure as they not only try to conform to the ideals of a society in which being cisgendered and straight is considered the norm, but also try find belonging within queer communities.

"The fear of being fat and the consequence of isolation is a very real thing in the queer community because you are already isolated based on your gender or sexuality and then the risk of further isolation based on desirable bodies," said Joy.

"Certain bodies have higher sexual currency than others. We live in an image-driven society where a billion-dollar diet and fitness industry tells people that they can't be happy and healthy until they look fit."

https://i.rdrama.net/images/16841358541817243.webp

Phillip Joy, a registered dietician and assistant professor at Mount Saint Vincent University in Halifax, says a certain Eurocentric aesthetic for gay men exists but the pressures are evident across all LGBTQ+ communities. (Danny Abriel)

Joy said advertising toward white, gay men has particularly emphasized this ideal, as did the need for a muscular, healthy body to counter wasting syndrome during the AIDS epidemic.

"Many grew up watching Queer As Folk, where men were all built, muscular, white — and those were the only queer role models in the media at that time," he said, referencing the popular American TV series from the early 2000s. "Now, some say RuPaul's Drag Race makes them want to attain a certain body type to be accepted."

Joy emphasized that these pressures are "evident across all LGBTQ+ communities."

Trans, intersex folks at greater risk

"Undoubtedly, in relation to other identities in the LGBTQ+ community, trans and intersex folks are disproportinately affected when it comes to pressures around body image," said Cody Esterle, a team member at Fighting Eating Disorders in Underrepresented Populations: A Trans+ & Intersex Collective, which addresses the high rates of eating disorders in these marginalized communities. Despite the organization being based in the United States, it is getting more and more requests from Canadian clients.

A major study of U.S. college students from 2015 found rates of eating disorder diagnoses, use of diet pills, laxatives or vomiting was highest among transgender participants.

https://i.rdrama.net/images/16841358547396295.webp

Cody Esterle, a team member at Fighting Eating Disorders in Underrepresented Populations: A Trans+ & Intersex Collective, says in relation to other identities, trans and intersex folks disproportionately face pressures around body image. (Submitted by Cody Esterle)

Esterle said representation of transgender and intersex people in the media is limited, and when it does happen, it tends to be "white, Eurocentric."

"If you just google 'beautiful' or 'attractive' men or women as a search, you'll just find white, chiseled men or women."

A transmasculine person himself, Esterle said many trans folks conform to those ideals hoping to be socially accepted or uplifted.

"If a trans identity falls outside those beauty standards and ideals that cis-people have created, so much harassment can come their way. If you fit more and pass [as a cisgendered person] more, there will be less questioning of identities."

Maya Homevoh agreed that "for many trans folks, conformity is a way of survival."

As an agender, queer, Black person, Homevoh is facing multiple layers of beauty standard pressure. The stereotype of a "curvy Black figure" being attractive, for instance, has seeped into her peer circle, she said.

"Black people are often reduced to our bodies," said the Waterloo, Ont., resident. "I'm not curvy, but the expectation remains that all Black women or femmes have to be curvy. It's dehumanizing."

Going to extreme lengths

Recent University of Saskatchewan graduate Don Lu comes across dating profiles that say "no fats, no femmes."

"While my physique is all right for my 5' 8" height, I find myself wanting to be more muscular, in part so more guys would be into me," said Lu.

"I feel not many people are attracted to Asians like me. If I were white with the same physique, it would have been a different story."

Lu visits the gym at least four times to work on his body.

He's not the only one going to such lengths to achieve a certain look.

"So many people in the queer community have botox, liposcution, calf implants and other plastic surgeries, or take pills to fit the bill to counter social exclusion," said Alex Sangha of Sher Vancouver, an organization that caters to LGBTQ South Asians.

In his counselling practice, Sangha encounters unrealistic body goals, eating disorders, and people getting "depressed and devastated that they can't meet media portrayals of queer bodies."

Sangha himself has "experienced a lot of exclusion, alienation, isolation and loneliness trying to fit in the gay community" as someone who's 50 and "a little heavy."

"I'm not the ideal stereotype of what people find desirable in the community," he said.

"Fatphobia is worse in the queer community than a lot of intersectional layers of racism and oppression because if you're a good looking fit ethnic person, you'll be tokenized but at least accepted."

https://i.rdrama.net/images/16841358564361649.webp

While Sangha said media representations are becoming more diverse, they still largely perpetuate stereotypes.

Homevoh said she never conforms to others' expectations of her appearance and even tries to avoid supposed compliments about her body, which she finds triggering.

"I used to have an eating disorder, and I tell people to not comment on my weight. Setting those boundaries is important."

Again heralding California as a refuge from discriminatory policies in conservative states, Gov. Gavin Newsom signed a bill into law on Thursday that aims to protect transgender youths and their families from bans against gender-affirming care.

Senate Bill 107 by state Sen. Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) provides for a range of safeguards meant to block out-of-state attempts to penalize families that come to California seeking medical treatment for transgender children and teens or move to the state to avoid consequences for already seeking that treatment elsewhere.

In a signing message, Newsom said that state laws attempting to ban medical care for transgender people younger than 18 “demonize” the community and are an act of hate.

“In California we believe in equality and acceptance. We believe that no one should be prosecuted or persecuted for getting the care they need — including gender-affirming care,” Newsom said. “Parents know what’s best for their kids, and they should be able to make decisions around the health of their children without fear. We must take a stand for parental choice.”

The new law prohibits California courts and attorneys from enforcing subpoenas requested by other states about gender-affirming care for minors, and healthcare providers from releasing medical information.

The bill also declares that any potential out-of-state arrest warrant for violating laws related to such care will be given “the lowest law enforcement priority.”

"While attacks on the transgender community are not new, we are experiencing alarmingly blatant attempts to use legislation, policy and political rhetoric to restrict or eliminate the autonomy, freedom and existence of transgender people across the country," the advocacy group Equality California said in a statement of support for the bill.

The California bill comes after more than 20 Republican-led states have introduced legislation to outlaw gender-affirming medical care for young people, and to penalize parents and healthcare providers who allow it.

The actual enactment of policies to limit that care has largely been stalled as states face legal challenges at the federal level. In August, a federal appeals court in Arkansas ruled that the state can't enforce its ban on transgender children receiving gender-affirming medical care.

But Wiener said California cannot bank on such blockages continuing.

"We don't know what's going to play out in appeal or if states will find other kinds of laws they can get through to courts," Wiener said in an interview before the bill's passage. "It would be absolutely negligence for us to say we're not going to do anything until one of these laws gets upheld and someone gets put in prison."

Whether SB 107 itself will be upheld in court is also in question because of federal requirements that states must recognize out-of-state laws when residents travel.

Last-minute amendments to the bill include a severability clause because "it is unclear whether this bill will run afoul of the Constitution," according to a legislative analysis of the measure. Severability allows parts of a law to remain in effect even if other provisions are struck down.

Wiener acknowledged that uncertainty, and said that the bill was crafted carefully to avoid violations of the U.S. Constitution, but said that California should not act as "an arm of law enforcement of the states of Texas or Alabama."

"We may have limits under the U.S. Constitution, but we are going to go right up to the edge of what we're able to do to protect them and say, 'Unless we are absolutely forced to send you back, we are not going to send you back,'" he said of potential families of transgender youth who may come to California.

California has also labeled itself a "sanctuary state" for those seeking abortions, which several states have banned following the U.S. Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe vs. Wade, the historic 1973 ruling that granted a legal right to the procedure.

As with California's attempt to support out-of-state residents seeking abortions, the impact of SB 107 is hard to estimate because many people in other states don't have the option or financial wherewithal to abruptly move to California.

"We can't solve everything in one bill. We're making sure that people who are being criminalized have a place to go," Wiener said. "This bill is about giving people refuge."

Gender-affirming care includes a range of "social, psychological, behavioral and medical interventions designed to support and affirm an individual's gender identity," according to the World Health Organization.

That can include hormones and puberty blockers, depending on a child's age. The World Professional Assn. for Transgender Health recommends some surgeries for patients starting at 15 years old, according to new guidelines released in June.

Conservative groups opposed the bill. The California Family Council, which routinely opposes LGBTQ rights legislation, said that SB 107 encourages "medical child abuse."

Sen. Brian Dahle (R-Bieber), who is running against Newsom for governor, said children "really don't know what their identify is," and said the legislation would insert the state into family custody battles.

"If one parent is for it and the other is against it, the state now will be in the middle of that decision," Dahle said on the Senate floor before voting against the measure. "This bill is basically putting the state in your home."

The bill's supporters included Lt. Gov. Eleni Kounalakis, Atty. Gen. Rob Bonta, Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California and Equality California.

Last month's appointment of retired Pepsico Inc. executive Grace Puma to Target Corp.'s board means the majority of the retailer's leadership is comprised of directors who are members of under-represented groups.

Target joins General Motors Co.Walt Disney Co. and Best Buy Co. among 140 companies in the S&P 500 that have a combination of women and people of color who make up more than half of the directors in the boardroom. An additional 60 boards are evenly split from a diversity standpoint, according to data from the 2022 proxy season compiled by ISS Corporate Solutions. At the end of 2020, there were 93 boards with a majority of under-represented members and 56 at parity, the data show.

"There are societal impacts that are changing the makeup of the corporate boardroom," said Marija Kramer, the head of ISS Corporate Solutions. The data also showed White directors' share dropped almost 20 percentage points since the start of 2020. "This is a reflection of the demographics of companies' consumers and a lot of skill sets companies are trying to solve for."

The overall diversity of corporate boards has been getting increasing attention as Nasdaq Inc. and Goldman Sachs Group Inc. have pushed new requirements that emphasize any combination of women, people of color and LGBTQ directors to represent a diverse board. The impetus also comes as the US Census predicts that the country's population will be majority minority sometime after 2040. While women already make up about half the workforce, they continue to lag behind men in leadership roles.

Nasdaq [requires](https://listingcenter.nasdaq.com/assets/Board Diversity Disclosure Five Things.pdf "Nasdaq listing requirements") boards to give an annual report on diversity and either have a diverse board or explain the lack of such a mix. Goldman requires diversity on boards as a condition of underwriting an initial public offering.

Target has been working to improve diversity for more 16 years, said Monica Lozano, chief executive officer of the College Futures Foundation, who is the lead director of the Target board and also serves on the boards of Apple Inc. and Bank of America Corp.

With the addition of Puma, Target's 13-member board now has five women, including three who are Latinx, and two Black men. The remaining six members are White men.

The changing demographics of the country and a strategic shift toward addressing the needs of stakeholders as opposed to only shareholders mean it's increasingly important for boards to have the right expertise, Lozano said.

"Those are conversations we weren't having five years ago, but we understand today that that an investment in our human capital is at its essence perhaps one of the most important investments that we can make as a company," she said.

As more under-represented members join boards, that also widens the pool of future candidates because greater diversity brings a new set of contacts often not otherwise known to White, male directors, said Janice Ellig, CEO of the Ellig Group, which recruits diverse board slates.

"The White man went to his golf club and that's who was on the board," she said. "Now that's changing. You're fishing in new pools."

That dynamic was clearly at play on the board of skateboarding-apparel company Zumiez Inc., said Lili Gil Valletta, who worked as a marketing executive at Johnson & Johnson before starting her own cultural intelligence consultancy that helps companies adapt to the changing demographics.

Gil Valletta said she joined Zumiez's board in 2019 as its first person of color. When the company's board began the search for a new director, she said she helped ensure that Carmen Bauza, a former executive at Fanatics Inc., Home Shopping Network and Walmart Inc., was among the candidates being considered. Bauza was appointed to the board in May, she said.

"What I'm feeling, that I had never felt before in my entire professional life, is this intentional referral networking and amplification of each other, of the few of us that are on the boards," said Gil Valletta, who's also a member of the Latinx Corporate Directors Association. "We are now getting together, talking to each other, having dinners at our homes."

That still doesn't mean progress is inevitable or necessarily speedy, Gil Valletta said. It's likely some of the same struggles for equity will still be happening in 2040, she said.

"I am a realist of how slow the world of business, and changing structures in business, work." Gil Valletta said. "I still think it will be a slow-moving boat."

Women held seven more seats on the boards of companies in the S&P 500 in August than they did in July, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. The average number of female directors was unchanged at 3.5, out of an average board size of 11.

  • The percentage of female directorships was unchanged at 31.9%

    • That is above the 14.3% for companies in Japan's Nikkei 225 and 16.5% for companies in Hong Kong's Hang Seng, and below the 35% of women on boards of companies in Australia's S&P/ASX 200 and 38.7% for Europe's Stoxx 600.
  • Nine S&P 500 companies increased the number of women on their boards, including Target, Cisco Systems Inc. and Dominion Energy Inc.

  • Two companies reduced the number of female directors: Procter & Gamble Co. and Yum! Brands Inc.

  • Organon & Co. has the highest percentage of women on its board.

  • Charter Communications Inc. has the lowest percentage of women on its board.

  • The consumer discretionary sector led the net gain in female board members, with one woman added each to the boards of GM, Dollar General Corp. and EBay Inc.

https://i.rdrama.net/images/16841351103379734.webp

  • Dominion Energy surpassed 30% female board membership for the first time since at least January 2019. The number of S&P 500 companies above this key threshold rose to 302 in August from 301 the previous month.

  • The Bloomberg Gender-Equality Index fell 3.9% in August, compared with the 4.1% drop of the MSCI World Index.

Generated from TLDR This:

A Massachusetts woman allegedly beat her former landlord to death with a hammer and wrapped his body in a curtain after he found out she was forging checks in his name and had stolen over $40,000, officials said.

Garber’s family reported him missing on Monday and Newton police visited his home to conduct a wellness check, but couldn't find him.

It was later determined that Garber and Ke had been spending time together and that Ke had “allegedly been forging checks from the victim’s accounts,” stealing more than $40,000, the release stated.

Prosecutors also said there was evidence she had stolen checks before and owed debts.

Ke was ordered to be held without bail Wednesday.

It's not immediately clear if she has a lawyer.

Ukraine has submitted an application to join NATO in an expedited manner. This was announced by the President Volodymyr Zelensky Friday, Sept. 30, following Putin signing an annexation accord. According to him, in effect Ukraine “has already passed its way into

NATO” and proved compatible with the standards of the alliance

Ukrainians!

And all our friends and allies!

De facto allies. Today, here in Kyiv, in the heart of our country, we are taking a decisive step for the security of the entire community of free nations.

We see who threatens us. Who is ready to kill and maim. Who in order to expand his zone of control does not stop at any savagery.

On February 24, the first full-scale attack on Ukraine was carried out. The first!

Russia would not have stopped at our borders if we had not stopped it. Other states would have been under attack. The Baltic countries, Poland, Moldova and Georgia, Kazakhstan…

Russia claimed to subjugate various nations of Europe and Asia. Claimed six months ago. This criminal ambition is breaking down in Ukraine. It was broken down in the suburbs of Kyiv and Chernihiv. In “Azovstal”. In the Sumy region and Kharkiv region. On Zmiinyi Island. It will be broken down in Donbas and in the south of Ukraine when we liberate them. Definitely – in Crimea, in the free Ukrainian Crimea.

The entire territory of our country will be liberated from this enemy – the enemy not only of Ukraine, but also of life itself, humanity, law and truth.

Russia already knows this. It feels our power. It sees that it is here, in Ukraine, that we prove the strength of our values. And that is why it is in a hurry. Organizes this farce with the attempted annexation. Tries to steal something that does not belong to it. Wants to rewrite history and redraw borders with murders, torture, blackmail and lies.

Ukraine will not allow that.

Today I held a meeting of the Staff of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief. The meeting of the National Security and Defense Council has just ended. We have a decision.

First – it is only the path of strengthening Ukraine and ousting the occupiers from our entire territory that restores peace. We will complete this path.

Second – Ukraine was and remains a leader in negotiation efforts. It was our state that always offered Russia to reach an agreement on coexistence on equal, honest, decent and fair terms. It is obvious that this is impossible with this Russian president. He does not know what dignity and honesty are. Therefore, we are ready for a dialogue with Russia, but already with another president of Russia.

And third – we must de jure record everything we have already achieved de facto. It is in Ukraine that the fate of democracy in the confrontation with tyranny is being decided. It is here, with the firmness of our state borders, that we can secure the firmness of the borders of all European states. We can guarantee that no one else will dare to bring war back to our continent.

It is here, in Ukraine, that the values of our Euro-Atlantic community have obtained real vital energy. The strength of the nation that fights for freedom, and the strength of the nations that help in this fight.

We are de facto allies. This has already been achieved. De facto, we have already completed our path to NATO. De facto, we have already proven interoperability with the Alliance’s standards, they are real for Ukraine – real on the battlefield and in all aspects of our interaction.

We trust each other, we help each other and we protect each other. This is what the Alliance is. De facto.

Today, Ukraine is applying to make it de jure. Under a procedure consistent with our significance for the protection of our entire community. Under an accelerated procedure.

We know it’s possible. We have seen Finland and Sweden start accession to the Alliance this year without a Membership Action Plan.

This is fair. This is also fair for Ukraine. This is the consolidation at the level of the treaty of what has already been achieved in life and what are our values.

We understand that this requires the consensus of all members of the Alliance. We understand that it is necessary to reach such a consensus. And therefore, while this is happening, we offer to implement our proposals regarding security guarantees for Ukraine and all of Europe in accordance with the Kyiv Security Compact, which was developed and presented to our partners.

Security has no alternatives. But determination is needed to guarantee it.

We are taking our decisive step by signing Ukraine’s application for accelerated accession to NATO.

Today, the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine adopted a decision to impose sanctions on significant individuals and legal entities of Russia who did not have the courage to speak out in defense of humanity and international law, or who in one way or another are involved in aggressive steps against Ukraine and the community of democratic nations.

And at the same time, I am addressing the people’s deputies of Ukraine: at the next session of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, a draft law on the nationalization of all Russian assets will be considered, which should significantly simplify this procedure. Please endorse this bill without delay.

We are completing the dismantling of Russian influence on Ukraine, Europe and the world.

Glory to Ukraine!
