Is /mu/ still the goto music forum if you want to find outsider / undergound releases / le gems?

I've not really browsed /mu/ or 4chan in ages but is that still the best place to find deep cuts / underground music? - Le gems if you will :marseygem:

Music I'd be referring to has like hundreds/thousands of listeners. Usually a one off album or project.

Examples:

Japanese Lo-fi synth music - https://rateyourmusic.com/release/album/麓健一/美化-bika/

Random Vocaloid album with 2k views - https://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm17530945

[insert random Vaporwave album that ends up being Good Actually] -

I would've used Brave Little Abacus in the past but they're super high on RYM now lol - https://rateyourmusic.com/release/album/the-brave-little-abacus/just-got-back-from-the-discomfort—were-alright/

Has that changed in the past 20 years with the advent of the internet?

Doesn't seem like it, the only difference is indie charts like earshot 20 or maybe new ones i dont know about

Like, i guess there are more avenues now? If u find a bunch of local bands on tiktok or w/e you'll end up seeing stuff they like so its like being part of that scene or smth ig

Oh I didn't realize "earshot 20" was like a service. that's very useful, thanks for the tip!

Some of my favorite songs are only on youtube and bandcamp

but you'd never find them with current year's sanitized and curated yt algorithm :marseyannoyed:

I'm currently listening to something on bandcamp that has 30ish views on yt that I think is pretty good, and they have various filters to find stuff, including by common cities
