Ive noticed a lot of older bands are trotted out for these events to pull people in on Nostalgia. It doesnt matter how much they suck since they keep people there all day waiting for them to play.
I say this from experience. I saw the smashing pumpkins at rock on the range about 10 years ago. They were really really bad.

For me it was a birthday gift and a chance to see an old band i liked. When you play their old songs you forget how much theyve aged and how many band members have been replaced.
