@Adolin113355's comment in another thread reminded me of BET's habit in the mid-2000s of outright refusing to play music videos for all sort of ridiculous reasons.

The Beatnuts' "Find Us (In the Back of the Club)" from Milk Me

"We don't break new artists."

Except The Beatnuts weren't new; they'd already had several music videos on BET over the previous decade. In fact, Milk Me was their sixth and final album.

Side Note: This song may be the first ever hip hop reference to Barack Obama. It came out just three weeks after his keynote address at the 2004 Democratic National Convention.

De La Soul's "Shopping Bags (She Got from You)" from The Grind Date

"De La Soul is no longer relevant."

A few months later, Gorillaz released "Feel Good Inc." from Demon Days. The song featured De La Soul and won a Grammy for "Best Pop Collaboration".

Little Brother's "Lovin' It" from The Minstrel Show

"This is too intelligent for our audience."
