/r/solarpunk is a sub for those interested in “solarpunk aesthetics” which means carbon free degrowth utopias for their scifi stories/games, etc.
Naturally their zero CO2 emissions world has no place for planes.

A bit arduous is quite an understatement
Once we get rid of capitalism everyone will be free to sail around the world
This is literally how it was done for all of history until the mid-1800s.
Sailing across the oceans was quite dangerous back then, I doubt redditcels will enjoy being in the middle of the Atlantic during a storm.

sail boats. people will have a lot more time to travel. in fact the voyage will be as important as the time spent in the destination, if not more important.
in fact i'm willing to bet that, in the future people will spend way more time travelling the world than we do now. because our "union" will not be because we share products it will be because we will share experiences.
humanity will not be tied economically it will be tied because we, our friends and family will have shared real experiences all around the world. no longer people will look at someone else from another country as another species because we will all travel around the world.
Bonus, some discussion on their meme ideologies

I really don't understand how they expect their utopia to function. It's like they think we live in a post scarcity society and if we just got rid of capitalism everyone would have everything they want and could do whatever they want. I could at least respect them a bit if they wanted the government to decide on everyone's jobs and distribute resources equally.

that's the thing. they don't understand.
these people think in their communist/socialist/gaypunk utopia that only people who want to work do and all those people pick things like artist or philosophy teacher or streamer or idk i'll read to kids in the morning i guess. that all the food/shelter/clothes required for a society to function would just magically spring in to existence. there's never a single person who says farmer or seamstress or builder or any of the things people would ACTUALLY BE REQUIRED TO DO GOD I HATE THESE PEOPLE SO FRICKING MUCH AHHHHHHHHHHH.

One of the communist academics literally wrote a piece about how capitalism stops us being able to understand how things will work in the communist utopia (but it totally will work honest injun) so we shouldn't let the fact that nobody understands it now stop us

No the current working class and such would still work and do everything but it would be for the love of the craft and community whereas anime appraisers would be free to take months long voyages on algae powered blimps.

I want them to explain to me, in detail, how they would make a pencil.
I want them to figure out how to cut the tree, how to get the metal for the saw, how to get the machinery to dig the ore, how to get the energy to run the machine, etc.

um why would they need pencils they'd just do all their writing on tablets or laptops we live in 2024 not 1024

Pencils are a capitalist invention. We'll have no need for writing or record keeping in the communist utopia.

A commie wrote a 2000 word response to this. Her answer is that you can make a pencil by wrapping (pre-made) Play-Doh around some (pre-made) pencil lead. There's no eraser, but she posits that breadcrumbs might do the trick.

The general answer you're gonna get will just be "people, being owners of their means of production, no longer alienated by capitalism, with ability to work more freely, will simply keep doing their job, or do a job they want to do, and provide for their community." The slightly more reasonable ones (not anarchists) will tell you if there was a shortage of people in a specific job, some incentive to drive people towards doing it could be provided.
The most batshit anarchists will tell you that oh well, that job will not be done and we'll have to learn to live without it, because coercing people to do something they don't want to is fascism and stuff.
Don't expect any more thought out points on achieving the level coordination that's required to produce anything in modern society, exchange of goods that only exist in specific locations and thus must be traded, etc.
