Architecture Posting. The Minhocão (Big Worm), University of Brasilia campus :marseygrad: :marseyflagbrazil:

Designed by Oscar Niemeyer and built between 1963-1971 it is officially known as "Central Institute of Science". The Big Worm has a total length of 696 meters, it was made of prefabricated reinforced concrete.

In that building there are 7 institutes and 3 faculties which are part of the University of Brasilia.

All that concrete looks great in architect's sketches and even when it's just-built. Then it gets dirty immediately and forever.

I like big concrete in tropical places, is a nice contrast from all the green, it looks cool (temperature wise) which is what you want in tropical. In less green places it looks imposing and evil.

A nice whitewash has the same effect in a more comfy, traditional way.

The paint protects concrete from external agents preventing pathologies.
