Read and laugh at the poortards https://finance.yahoo.com/news/car-debt-piling-more-americans-110000331.html

Chris Martin knew he needed a bigger car as the birth of his fourth child approached, but he and his wife were already $14,000 underwater on their two vehicles.

So the couple proposed an unusual two-for-one deal with an Atlanta-area auto dealer in 2020: trading in both of their vehicles so they could afford a three-row Ford Explorer. Their total loan after factoring in negative equity, a service contract, fees and other costs ballooned to $66,000 on the $49,000 Explorer.

4 kids, in debt, and a price-bloated SUV. If this ain't 'murican, I don't know what is.

Martin, a 36-year-old data engineer.

He's in the hottest current tech role, he should be rolling in cash.

I guess the 3 kids killed any chance of this guy building up any sort of equity.

Idk my dad was making 300k+ in a similar role when I was in school and he had no problem having paid off cars, house, paying for college. This guy may just be r-slurred or house poor.

I'd put money on rather than saving money on childcare his wife works too. My sister works at a daycare in Atlanta, it costs more a month than my mortgage for a 2.5 story, 3 acre house in the Midwest. Also her rent is more than my mortgage, it's a 2 bedroom apartment where she can't even let her kid play outside.

So basically house poor and r-slurred, like most of Atlanta

You genuinely can't tell what tech roles do just by the name. This dude could just be hand keying pdf data because his company is too incompetent to implement ocr.

I bet these people post "I wish they taught financial literacy in school" memes on Facebook. They do, you didn't pay attention. I also bet the dad works at Nunya Business too.

Are minivans not a thing anymore? Three rows, better fuel economy, cheaper than a friggin Ford Explorer.

They absolutely are, $44k for a 2023 Caravan and the price declines quite steeply. The 2008s have bulletproof motors in them and can be had for a song, but even the 2010s ones are not too expensive and rly good
