Capitalism is a friendship ruiner:marseycrying:

As I get older:marseybabushka:, I’m realizing I’m losing some of my oldest friendships because of capitalism:marseymerchantelf:. My college friend group has slowly split into two groups over the past 15 years: the super rich corporate capitalists making over $400,000/year:marseyrabbitnewyear: or the low wage artists:marseyschizo: and service professionals:marseywaiter:, who will probably never see six figures:mcmarsey:. Whether it be a friend who works for a law firm:marseycool2: and represents mega-corps...:marseydragon: Or an investment banker friend:marseysaluteisrael:, with literal millions in the bank, who Venmo requests even our brokest friends for a $8 latte:marseywomanmoment2:, the capitalists have become insufferable:marseybreastcancer:. Another is working for one of the biggest water polluters in the world:marseyxi:, yet apparently cares about climate change. They all embody “socially democrat, fiscally conservative” politics :gigabiden: which just says you’re a hypocrite:marppybiden:.

I’ve watched the desire to hoard wealth:marseytrogdor: turn these once generous and considerate people into greedy, vapid shells of themselves:marseysoycry:. They’ve all compromised their values in egregious ways and justified it in the pursuit of “making a living.”:soyjaktantrum: I reached a breaking point this week when one of them had the audacity to make fun of a lower ranking “poor” coworker who made “only $250,000” a year:marseychingchongitsover:, when they know my butt barely hits $60k:marseywall:. Knowing how much they value your worth by the size of your bank account:chadlibleft:, I can’t even imagine what they say about me behind my back:marseyxd:.

Anyway, I just needed to rant about how much it sucks to lose friends because they’re obsessed with money:marseysmughips:. And if anyone else is going through something similar, you’re not alone:marseycommielove:.

A high paid employee that makes the corporate machine more efficient is a capitalist. They sure as heck ain’t socialists or communists:marseywagie:

Light roasted drama

What a dumb take. Your friends should get shitty jobs or they are shitty people? You can 100 percent participate in capitalism while finding it abhorrent. If you have a job you're just as much of a capitalist as your friends are.

So, literally anyone with a job?

Welcome to the anti work movement

I wouldn't worry about it at all since the entire fiat monetary system is on the verge of a total collapse.:marsoy:

Yeah the thought of any of them being able to survive without their status symbols is laughable. Money is their entire personality:directlypointingsoyjak:

How do you land a position that pays that much? Get a business :marseybroker: degree :marseygrad: from Harvard? That's "very rich" by my standards.

Sounds like she's friends with a bunch of investment bankers/finance types. Which means he probably had a pretty privileged upbringing but oddly enough that isn't brought up.

Yeah no doubt lmao, particularly the split where she says her friends that she grew up with either became mega rich or artists. Gives NYC vibes where they all think they’re doing it tough as an artist despite receiving rent paid for by parents or smth

She probably also has the same upbringing as him since it sounds like they at least knew each other from college, so if anything she fumbled the bag.

If you live in the bay, 250k sucks unless you have a bunch of roommates in which case it still kinda sucks because you live in the bay.

This is the only true part of your statement. If you still need roommates while making 250k, you’re really bad with money.

I get it if you're young and you want to save more money for later though.

Go to teamblind.com and take in the neurodivergent sexy Indian dude wisdom. Grindmaxx and land a job in the bay with a lot of stock compensation. Pray stock goes up so your effective compensation skyrockets. Or go into some trading company where you can theoretically make like $400k+ as a new grad. https://www.levels.fyi/companies/jane-street/salaries/software-engineer

That's the tech path at least.

It’s a lot for normie standards but it’s a bit low for a finance or law job.
