Hello everyone so I currently have 16k in CC debt and my wife has about 25k so I have about 41k in CC debt and with both our cars our total debt is at 85k but that's our only debt. I'm in the military in California and my wife is a stay at home mom taking care of our 10 mo old baby. She was working prior when we lived in NC and living out here is so darn expensive so we've had to resort to using our CCs a bunch to get by since I only make about 3,300 a month. I applied to my banks for lowering our interest rates with the SCRA(servicemember civil relief act). I've sold a bunch of stuff we don't use and even applied for a second job. We also applied for WIC and most likely will get that since according to their website my monthly pay is under what they have listed for a 3 person household. We've cut out our luxury's such as eating out and buying miscellaneous stuff. We are also considering changing our phone plan from Verizon to T-Mobile due to that being cheaper after looking at their rates. We haven't ever missed a payment on any of our debts and have stopped using or CCs all together.

Is there anything I'm missing that could help us pay off our debts faster or assist in saving more money to pay off our debts.

Summary across the other posts:

Debts:

  • $41,000 credit card debt (supposedly got reduced rates to like 15% due to some military benefit program)

  • $44,000 car debt (VW Tigua & F150 ✔)

Income:

  • $3,300 a month from USMC, wife doesn't work and takes care of 8 month year old

Expenses:

  • Vehicle payments: $800

  • Phone payment: $171

  • Insurance: $131

  • Credit Cards: $1,050

  • Groceries: $250

  • Dog food: $100 :marseyshook:

  • Total: $2,950

You may notice rent isn't included. That's because they live on base where rent and utilities are covered. As for how they ran up the debt, the explanation is they just did. OP also posts in /r/pokeinvesting.

Bonus post, some cute twink in r/army complaining about the 88 in his username.

If that 88 is your birth year, you're too old for Warrant on the active side, over 32 requires a waiver. If it's the other thing… let's just say I hope it's your birth year.

I was born in 97 , 88 is my highschool football number lol

After those scout snipers got busted pissing on bodies and posing with the SS flag, I'm really surprised the corps doesn't have mandatory hate-symbol training.

  • Replace cars with shitty beater and a moped (dude lives on base, he could probably get by with only a bicycle).

  • Change phone plans.

  • Put military hog wife on a diet.

  • Release the dog on the freeway.

And it will still take them years to pay down the rest of the debt lawlz.

Is bankruptcy even an option anymore for amerikkkans?

Bankruptcy would normally be a decent idea in situations like these (lots of unsecured debt, income not too high, no significant assets), the problem is it doesn't fix the underlying problem of being a crayon-eater. And it's hard to declare bankruptcy again within a short time. So earnestly trying to repay might actually be better.
