For the first time we have exclusive pictures of the inside of the Catherine Crackhouse. This is @ArielTroster's idea of "affordable housing". #Ottawa @OttawaBylaw @_MarkSutcliffe pic.twitter.com/Q5AZQJEtSX

475 Catherine street in ottawa is a crackhouse that is condemned and flooded with sewage. Currently the city pays for electricity so that the residents can keep the lights on
A year ago it was a Bike chop shop

About 9 months ago it was condemned but the city did nothing because crackheads still lived there and we can't make crackheads homeless

8 months ago it was involved in a drug war -

I'm there right now lol. The house has been declared condemned by the City and has been seized by the bank because the landlord who made millions selling mask and other protective equipment on Government contracts has dissolved his company and ran off.
The house is also half filled with raw sewage in the basement.
Ariel Troster has no interest in cleaning it up is what I've been told she's been sending the social workers and we keep booting them out of the parking lot. The police have been there numerous times because of overdoses two people died last week.
Send the social workers to help

How do things go so wrong? People used to be able to live out of primitive structures with cheap materials and no amount of feral living made it unusable for more than the time it took to clear the bodies out.
How, with all our modern advantages, do things go even worse? What's stopping us from putting these folk in peat-lined cabins now?

Meth? Subsistence serfs weren't tripping balls if that's what you're comparing them to.
If anything it speaks to modern society's abundance that these people exist like this but have no trouble staying alive.
