Hello, welcome to 'I see the poors are pretending to be big wallet gangstas again'
This hole exists as a safe space for refugees from the Facebook(MetaTM groups of the same name. Of which there have been several iterations. We mostly exist to poke fun at the state of living in poverty. While it oftentimes is unavoidable, we do aspire to not be meanspirited. Over the years we have co-opted the term 'Peak Poor' to being someone who exudes poverty, regardless of their actual net worth. Trump and Elon both exhibit the peak poor ethos from time to time while still being the top 0.000001%. You can do something peak poor and still be a good person or a generally adjusted one. We all have a bit of poor in us.
We basically fill a niche similar to fatpeoplehate with a bit less actual malice.
PeakPoor is shotgunning mountain dews at 5 years old.
PeakPoor is not people dying of poverty. While technically the greatest heights of poverty is succumbing to it this is not funny, and is a failure
of capitalism. We do not make fun of poverty to be mean spirited such as that.

Loan or straight cash, buying a new car is stupid AF period. It's one of the worst things you can do with your money
and yes I'm 100% a hypocrite and just bought a brand new IS 350 with cash, but I can actually afford to do that (being single has it's advantages) and I fully acknowledge it was stupid as frick but I hardly buy shit for myself so whatever. That being said back when I was in my 20s I'd buy piece of shit used cars for 1-2 grand and just hope they got me like 4 months driving time because that beats any monthly payment on a car essentially. Only one broke down before a year, so was totally worth it

I drive one of these! (I've had it for ~10 years now and it was slightly used when I got it; its value hasn't dropped more than a few grand since then lol)

It's insane that they cost this much now but what can you do. The advice on models hasn't really changed afaik, if you're looking for something super cheap used the reliable options are semi old toyotas and hondas; I love my VW but from what I've heard their reliability beyond 100k miles has gotten worse in the years after mine was manufactured (even during my model year, but the timing belt and diesel issues don't apply to my model). I will drive it until it dies or I get a massive career upgrade.
Also, they're not kidding in the memes, taking it apart and working on it is a massive pain in the butt thanks to german overengineering.
