Lot of people that live around these homeless encampments get disturbed by the homeless and it makes their neighborhood look shittier. People hate getting off work and then coming home to a neighborhood that looks shittier than before.

It's easy for people to sit in the internet talking about "we should go easy on the homeless, just keep giving them free stuff and let them do whatever they want" when you don't have to deal with them in real life

When I complain about homeless people and point out that they're ugly and smell bad, some people will retort "oh those things don't really matter".

But I'm pretty certain I don't want to live somewhere that's ugly and smells bad, and most others don't want to either.

It's even worse on public transit too. "Oh he's not hurting anyone, he's just in the corner stinking up the entire fricking train".

Things will never get better, though. Not for at least a decade, probably several, if it ever does. It's just incredible what people convince themselves is normal and totally acceptable.
