Debt strikers post their Ls

https://old.reddit.com/r/DebtStrike/comments/wkog7r/sometimes_i_randomly_think_about_how_my_guidance

Well it’s either going to the military and putting your life at risk being potential deployed or taking 10,000+ in student loans. Those were my options.

I was dumb enough I did both. Spent all my money in the military, didn't use my GI Bill and now and working off SL debt. I didn't have a plan, and it shows.

Down to less than 10% of my debt left though. It's almost gone!

My guidance counselor said: "you're a smart kid, you'll figure it out." Then went to focus on helping the kids who were in the verge of dropping out

Too intelligent to succeed and it's all the HS guidance counselers fault :marseybigbrain:

>I want to remind everyone that this is a uniquely American problem. Whether to attend university must not depend on the wealth of the family into which one was born (or how athletic someone is) but rather on ACADEMIC MERIT.

academic scholarships exist r-slur, i did well in high school and got full rides to literally every school i applied to

Being able to write your name probably qualifies for a scholarship at most Louisiana schools

you aren't that far off, like a 21 on the ACT gets you a full ride to most public schools in this state, but i got full rides to Rice, Vandy, and Duke as well.

Gonna pull out my giga autist hat here and suggest that you're either exaggerating, outright bullpooping, or conflating merit and need-based money. I'm pretty sure that Duke and Vandy haven't offered true merit-based full rides at any point in the last couple of decades. You have to be black, poor, or a poor legacy to get a meaningful amount of financial aid at either of those schools.

i got a perfect score on both standardized tests in high school plus did other bullshit. And i def didn't qualify for any of the other categories you mentioned

Nowadays a perfect score (or close to it) only gets you a $2,500 scholarship if you’re an Asian male lmao. Almost all the top colleges don’t have merit based scholarships anymore

I’d love to hear what this redditor thinks of affirmative action

I was a complete r-slur in school but was still able to easily put myself through college working at a bar. Also because I didn't choose an r-slured major, I'm making bank as a software engineer.

Or- better question- why do these people think it's a right to go spend 100 grand of someone else's money for 5-6 years to not learn anything that mets them a better job than working at Starbucks?

Someone's not a fan of affirmative action.

People are still complaining about le boomers telling them college is a path to success (which is largely true) because they've failed at making something of their lives?

It's your guidance counselors fault you took an idiotic major with bad grades and an overly expensive college and now have done little to try and turn that into something.

I've seen art history majors reverse course and make 6 figures doing non-tech work in big tech.

These people are just failures but can't admit that most of the blame lies with them.

The worst part is they had 4 years to realize they were fricking up and never once did

You know, I would have some sympathy for them if they blamed themselves instead of trying to shift it.

Like shit college was a breeze compared to highschool. Finally able to do/learn instead of subjects and books I had no reason to read or even liked

And do you think maybe that has something to do with why your college degree is worthless?

No one talks about how Guidance Counselors are very culpable for why many of us are in debt. If any of my 3 had said “go to community college”, i would have $30k less in debt and probably still be employed.

If you need someone to tell you this then you're hopeless.
