Why you need to let poor people buy coffee in peace : povertyfinance

https://old.reddit.com/r/povertyfinance/comments/er1qws/why_you_need_to_let_poor_people_buy_coffee_in

Two year old words posting saying that it's problematic to tell the Pours to stop enjoying things and Starbucks/Netflix/weekly funko pops are necessities.

Comments are a mix of people with brains that agree budgeting matters when you're broke and brainlets overdoing on copium for their bad decisions

Edit: Yikes. Where do I begin?

90% of poor people are poor because theyre stupid and iimpulsive.

10% are genuinely very unlucky and keep getting kicked when theyre down.

Noooooo, poor people are poor because when a rich guy buys shoes for 500$ they last him for a lifetime by just maintaining them with 25$ shoeshine and when poors buy 50$ shoes they have to replace them every 2 years or more!! I saw a comic about it!

Honestly, quality in apparel, footwear, and most goods peak at a point. Most people don’t seem to realize that point is a lower dollar figure than they’d expect.

I got my first pair of hiking boots for like 60$ on REI clearance and I racked up like 200 miles on those at least.

I have $40 sneakers ive worn a few times a week for 3 years that are still fine.

But theres something... extra thats more common in poor people that makes them blow out the bottoms a little bit faster

REI is where its at with quality. In college I bought 4 pairs of made in USA new balances for $30 each from some absurd unannounced sale a “hypebeast” shoe store was having and they are all still complete functional, even with running, festivals, and hiking in them for years. $120 and I’ve had beaters that are still trendy for years.
