The Southern Poverty Law Centre and Anti-Defamation League both note the use of Pepe among their documentation of widely used hate symbols, and the creator of the Pepe character has publicly killed Pepe off and distanced himself from its use in response to its adoption by the MAGA set.

For my part, I operate my stream and groomercord as a Pepe free zone, not because I think people using it are doing so in a malicious way, but because I am aware that some people find it's use unsettling or uncomfortable, particularly people who are sensitive to issues of anti-semitism or racism, and my goal is to create a broadly welcoming and inclusive community.
So ultimately, it's hard to seperate the two, I wouldn't worry too much about Pepe by itself, but if you see it in conjunction with a few other little red flags they can merge into a big red flag.
