I need a set of crampons that are more for traction, but I intend to climb at least some ice and some mixed. The CAMP blade runners have an alpinist front tip set, so I can use horizontal front tips for general glacier travel, and switch to monopoints for truly nasty ice.
However, a friend of mine offered me her Black Diamond Cyborg Pro crampons for 100 bucks, and I'm curious how you think they'd work for general glacier travel. The blade runners are expensive - the most expensive on the market. But they do fit my needs. They're also quite heavy. I'm assuming that both sets have about the same fit for my boots.
Has anyone here tried general glacier travel with a technical ice climbing crampon? Do you find they slide on steep terrain? I may just try to find a set of true horizontal points but what if I want to climb some ice after some glacier travel?
Thanks rdrama

Your local pharmacy should have a variety of crampons that will probably meet your needs. If it's an emergency you could also ask next time you use the restroom, you may not get the crampon you were looking for but if you play the numbers game someone will have one to spare.

Should I carry an extra set of crampons for the girls on the glacier?

Nobody will expect you too, but if someone on the glacier needs crampons then you'll be a hero.

Dude don't frick around with climbing glaciers and mountains it's dangerous and stupid, I don't want tens of thousands of my tax dollars wasted to send a chopper and a rescue team out to rescue your r-slurred butt when your cheap shitty "crampons" fail and you roll down the side of the glacier only to be saved with a wedgy if you're lucky enough that your underwear snags on a rock or something.
Stay home, bully people on the internet instead.

Idk about rigid crampons, I just keep a pair of microspikes in my bag and they're super useful for climbing non-vertical ice sheets like frozen rivers. They also improve traction on wet rocks and dirt.

I usually carry those but I definitely need a full set of crampons for glacier travel. I'll be on terrain where self arrest is going to be a maybe instead knowing for sure that it's possible.
What kind of micro spikes do you like?
