I know people who got way too into WoW raiding to the point that they stopped coming to actual real events and now 10 years later they've all quit and now they just don't have any close friends.
Conversely though, online friends are great when you move towns and start over and you have some solid group of people that doesn't change at all to fall back on.
But it's def more important to not neglect irl
