It's pretty infamous that large swathes of the American South, especially the white supremacy fricks, have a bunch of African genes.

This is pretty much the exact opposite of true due to the prevalence of the one drop rule. African Americans have a ton of European DNA, but European Americans have very little African DNA.

Southern racists mostly treated quadroons and the like better than pure bred Africans, but they definitely weren't treating mixed people like they were white and watering down the bloodlines.

I've seen this a lot. Most people even a quarter black identify and associate with blacks. I've heard people half Asian and half white having difficulty growing up and finding a group to identify with. Also, there are lots of losers in my region so there's that.
