I agree with frued and with modern psychology both in part.

Frued says neurosis is a reaction to ones environment. We are very likely putting people in lives so fricked up they cannot help but be partly insane until they are taken out of those environments and given active therapy to reset their minds.

On the other hand just like with depression, you can probably cure 99% of cases with the right interventions, but there is certainly that minority that just is incurable.

Truthfully though, if we could actually intervene successfully for all the curable ones, then I am sure that the incurable ones wouldn't be that big an issue at all.

My personal belief is that there is a minimum baseline of close intimate connections a person requires to be able to function. And that a majority of the modern world population is missing that minimum threshold right now.
