How to not be cringe? :!tayaaa:

Some of you know I've been working on a video about a car project. It's been taking way longer than it should have. It's still THAT video. I don't even remember which alt I was on when i started it.

The current 'part one' is 95% complete. Just needs an outro and background music.

The problem is, I'm scrapping the design. I don't want to scrap all this progress on the video, though -- this is six months worth of work.

Part One is "intro, history, parts needed, 3d printed parts, preassembly, prewiring".

Part Two was supposed to be the in-car windshield prep and installation

Then a couple parts of the programming and calibration, followed by showcasing all my previous failed designs and screwups.

But now half of Part One is a failed design.

I'm not sure how to proceed with this.

If I leave this video as-is, then the order gets all messed up. This was also supposed to be a sort of tutorial others could do.

If I remove the incorrect information and save it for the 'failed designs' video, this Part One becomes a clunky 4 minutes long.

If I wait until I get the new design figured out, that means the video is going to take even longer, especially since there's a good chance I'll need a new windshield again.

I could change Part 2 to say "ok it's no longer a how-to, it's a 'follow along while I figure it out'" but that's not what I wanted this to be.

The new new new 2024 v6 design is actually going to be very basic. Disappointingly basic, really. I had all kinds of nice visuals of how my parts went together, and none of it will apply to the new design.

The big plot twist in all this is that for the past four years, I've been designing custom mounting brackets because you cannot buy just the bracket on its own -- it comes with the windshield, and there is no correct windshield with the bracket for my model, and it's not common enough to rely on junkyard availability. But now in $current_year, you can buy the mounting bracket on Aliexpress for $5, making the past four years of custom brackets completely moot.

I know it's a niche thing and I'm never going to actually be a real Big Boy youtuber, this is mostly a way to occupy my 30s, but I'd still like to do it proper so I can pretend I'm cool and somewhat known like Aging Wheels. I also know the responses here will be little more than 'dude bussy lmao' and 'post hog', but this is at least a more honest community than Reddit when it comes to 'how to not be cringe'

What do I do?

That's actually not bad. I'll keep you in mind if this ever gets finished.

make a brief overview of the design work for the old design and then talk about why you had to scrap it

design is an iterative process and learning about why something didn't work can give valuable insight into the thing you're trying to design and the systems that interact with it

just put in time stamps so if they don't care they can skip it

Well i have a bunch of old designs that didn't work, lmao. They'll all end up in a separate video.

It'd get disjointed because the entire layout is intro, store-bought-parts, 3d-printed-parts, identifying the correct mirror, post-processing the parts, preassemble the mirror, a tangent about the Lincoln MKZ, prewiring.

All the sections are still present but the methodology changes with the new style. So not quite the same hardware, not quite the same parts, not quite the same assembly, but there's a lot of overlap.

I'll probably just shove the sections into a later video, prefaced as "so here's what i had all edited and ready to go" but strip out the duplicate bits (maybe with a titlecard saying what was removed you've already seen)

I'm trying to be entertaining but i don't know if it's landing

Ended up getting the mirror removed without too much collateral damage, but i have no choice but to remove the factory mount too
