  • HailVictory1776 : E-bikes are cute twinks learn to ride fixed gear on a 47x13 ratio and be a man

I've been pretending to have an ebike and it's catching up to me

Like the title says. My friends all got ebikes but I just cant afford the few hundred dollars on a whim. I didn't want to be left out of our group rides so I rattlecanned an old trek black and taped some plastic to the frame that kind of looks like a battery pack.

I've been hitting the spin bike a lot more and making humming sounds when we go ride but I'm not sure how long I can keep this up. I almost got dropped last week after they unrestricted the speed controller, and they're planning a really hilly brevette for this weekend. I'm not sure what to do

why would you ever get a fixie, is it just lower weight?

Do they still have a freewheel/clutch? Seems unsafe if so

You get it because it's unsafe, dweeb. Although, you should be strong enough to lock the back tire, just in case

@StuPedasho @SexyFartMan69

idk mountain bike is more fun. You choose how difficult the ride is by the difficulty of the terrain, this is just like artificially making it more difficult for yourself.

I can see the appeal if its you're trying to save weight, and you can do that thing where you stand in place on the bike. Also I assume the chain comes loose less often cause no derailleur.

But really I could not do the shit I do on a daily basis without a freewheel (because of clearance of the pedals with the ground/the curb), and it is very liberating to just glide with your feet on the pedals.

Part of me really wants to have one of those really lightweight foldables though.

The momentum from the bike moving makes losing the freewheel negligible, most fixies have a high bottom bracket to clear the ground.

They're not great for long distances, and to be fair I havent had one since I entered my 30s because they are shit on the knees in a headwind

No freewheel. You pedal forward you go forward. You pedal backwards you go backwards. Gives you insane amounts of bike control and balance, like riding a unicycle.
