Help me convince my roommate not to go on anti-depressants.

My roommate recently told me about how their therapist has been trying to start them on anti-depressants.

Thing is, they have a pretty bad diet, get zero exercise and have an erratic sleep schedule. They also smoke tons of weed and are currently on HRT. (!cuteandvalid any input on if that stuff makes you depressed?). Some positives are they have a very good job and work long hours, and have a supportive girlfriend.

Anyway I want to try and get through to them that all of the (negative stuff) above is likely the cause of their depression, and anti-depressants are a band-aid on a bullet-hole. Unfortunately I feel like I won't be able to get through to them, since I feel like anything I say will come across as me trying to moral-lecture them or telling them how to live their life.

I know this isn't really a serious forum, but if you guys have any experience with this and could maybe come up with an approach that I could take to explain this stuff to them i'd appreciate it, since I want to try and save someone from the SSRI-zombie apocalypse.

Thanks.

Can someone ssripill me?, because everything I've seen about the fricking evidence for SSRIs makes them look like psudoscience.

like they barely have a fricking significant effect and psychs all say they work but oooh you gotta wait a fricking few months for them to kick in and each type of ssri only works for some people so you gotta try multiple types

like I'm not saying their fake, but this is fricking exactly what we'd expect to see if ssris are fricking fake

basically, oldschool antidepressants like nardil fricking worked but doctors don't like to prescribe them because they have much more hardcore side effects and dietary restrictions and stuff. so they were quick to take the bait if someone told them there was an alternative, and that's how SSRIs got popular.

the first SSRI I took worked for me, within a week I felt different. I wouldn't recommend it unless you're unironically suicidal.

They "flatline" your mood, so you stop feeling like shit all the time but it's also hard to care about anything on it.

Theyre effective, but about 30-40% of its effectiveness was due to the therapist/scientist taking an interest in the lives of the people they prescribed them to.

SSRIs only work if you have depression and an uncontrollable anger disorder. There's a specific set of parameters that make SSRIs work but because people want an easy fix they'd rather take pills not meant for them than improve themselves. I'd say MAYBE .05% of the population had the necessary brain chemistry for them
