This happened to me. I found a sort of spring soldered into a small box, in a bag of popcorn. I didn't think much of it, and I threw it away.

Then a few days later, I unexpectedly got another machine part in a bag of frozen blueberries. Days later, another machine piece in with another packet of pre-packaged food. And again. And again. I kept all the parts from then on, and finally, I had all of the pieces for a strange machine, its purpose unknown, EXCEPT FOR ONE PIECE: that fricking spring-thing, that I'd thrown away, without which, the machine just doesn't work. I tried to reproduce the spring-thing from memory, but I never got it right, so the machine continues not to work.

So whatever you do, don't lose that knob. The rest of your mystery machine will be coming soon.
