They won't. In their minds it was supposed to pass (much like how it was Her Turn! in the US in 2016) because they were on the right side of history. Because it didn't it broke their brains and they must now examine exactly why.
Except because they're so morally righteous and thus incapabale of self-reflection they can never arrive at answers remotely resembling the reality, so they keep coming up with out of touch stuff like this.
And they'll keep doing so, getting more and more deranged as people disagree with them. Because disagreement just means that they were right and everyone else was wrong / evil.
