If you want a better history of gay Republicans, read Secret City, the history of gay Washington. Or better yet, get the audiobook, it's read in a very catty gay tone. But all the Republican administrations in the 20th century had tons of gay dudes working for them. The entire state department is and has been gayer than a tree full of parrots. All of Nancy Reagans friends were of the "West Hollywood set."
