Trump got incredibly lucky with the judge on this case. He's so extremely guilty here that even the latest SCOTUS decision about presidential immunity would not have protected him. Supposedly he's even on tape admitting he didn't declassify the documents and that he isn't supposed to have them. And all of it so he could cling to random documents for which he doesn't even have a use. Genuinely all he was using them for was whining to a ghostwriter about how Milley was mean to him. Truly the stupidest crimes imaginable.

Trump "won" because Cannon declared the special counsel as an institution is illegal. This will probably be reversed on appeal, and then get appealed again to the SCOTUS.
Note that the "win" has nothing to do with the MAGA cope narrative. Which means the narrative is still cope, since it was a false story they told themselves which didn't win them the case.

This is indeed a pretty good defense, and would be fairly persuasive in front of a jury. The prosecution would disagree, and say Donald repeatedly lied about the documents and moved them to keep the government from recovering them. Given the jury pool in the area, it might be hard (but not impossible) for the prosecution to overcome the appearance of unfairness.
But ultimately, it's an argument for a jury. Trump's actions unarguably violate the letter of the law. This dismissal is Cannon claiming special counsels are illegal in general, regardless of the circumstances.

That doesn't make any sense to me. There's nobody above the president in terms of being able to declassify and there's no real process he had to obey or people he had to report to for declassification. Essentially, the president can do whatever he wants with classified documents as it all lies within that purview.
