Here in Leafland, garbage truckers/collectors are pretty prestige/lucky people. They get something like 90/hr for some of the easiest shit you can imagine. You can basically only become one if you are personally connected to the current municipal leadership. Of course they only get a few hours per week, but still pretty insane as a side-hustle especially considering they also get a bunch of benefits despite this not being a full-time job.

I don't know what it's like now in Australia but it used to be like that here, you worked a few days a week for half-day and got full benefits + an upper middle class salary.
I went to a private school with the son of a garbage man and when he graduated his dad got him a job doing the same through connections.
