What the frick did the Democrats do wrong? How do you lose this? Frick.
"Let's put someone in the race who has no identity and run them on the basis of identity politics"
It's as people don't fricking give a shit if they live in a democracy or a dictatorship. Zero civic virtue.
this kind of rhetoric is a lot less impactful when Trump was already president for four years, and wasn't a dictator
I strongly condone this but without a doubt there will multiple attempts over the next 4 years of people trying to take him out. There are lunatics everywhere and we saw what it was like leading up to it. it's going to get way worse and I'd be surprised if he makes it the full 4 years.
He's the president now he'll get top tier protection
It was the economy and Biden's low approval ratings that lost the election. Trump coworkers I talked to just focused on prices. Its crazy to me that this the guy they want back, a normal Mitt Romney type would make way more sense, but this is where we are right now. The Maga cult is scary, but I think what we will get is a repeat of 2016. Its going to be a draining four years, but then itll be over.
Bit redundant, his low approval rating was mostly because of the economy. Its also crazy they focused on prices and backed someone whose economic plan is going to raise the price on EVERYTHING.
I guess I should stop reading or watching media about villainous or unlikable protagonists from this point on, I don't want those types to became an actual reality.
2 more Supreme Court nominations within the next 4 years. They'll be in their early 30s.
If you're reading this, the Supreme Court will be conservative for the rest of your lifetime. Did you see Trump won the popular vote?
Exit polling really showing young people moving significantly to the right
Incels who got brainwashed by losers like Joe Rogan and Felon Musk
Here lies democracy! We hardly knew ye
This is literally democracy
It is. A democracy can vote to end itself. Now the US gets to live with that vote. Welcome to a country where the only currency worth anything is the connections you have and the people you know. The American Empire ends. All the world had to do was wait for it to kill itself.
The only generation that rejected Trump is millennials lol, the whole country really is against us. Gen Z and Gen alphas are also tending far right. It's so joever
This country is pathetic. You got a party built by a base of the fricking flunkies that hard workers leave behind, but now they're trying to drag hard workers back to their level. Just no. You are beneath me you idiots and your choice is going to frick you over a lot earlier than it fricks me over because you're on the bottom. And that's the hierarchy you just voted for. So enjoy your fricking pudding I guess.
This election should be studied for how the Dems messed up the strategy. Fascinating outcome.
Isn't it easy? Don't villainize half-your population, and rely solely on your existing base to always vote the same and demonize first-voter young men who you have made be more likely to stay in the Republican camp for the next decade?
Can't wait to see what the next once-in-a-lifetime financial crisis Republicans cause is
❗
An utter pathetic "leader" Too much of a coward to come out and thank your supporters. No call to concede. Nothing. Her fans suffer humiliation for so long, toiling for you, believing all your lies. And this puppet kamabla clown doesn't even have the leadership or courage to say something.
What a bad representation of women. You guys can thank the world for choosing the right leader. Thank God that pitiful fool didn't become president
Dude, AP called the election 30 minutes ago. She will concede.
It was over last night and she knew it, Trump declared victory last night. She should have conceded
she's probably too drunk.
If Dems can hold 48 senate seats and flip the house Trump will be a lame-duck anyway.
Copium right here.
The funniest thing about this whole thing is trump isn't even that good, Kamala was always that fricking bad
Yeah, kinda crazy the person that was one of the first to drop out of the primary due to unpopularity ended up becoming a candidate :)
How were we so wrong? I bet so much money on Kamala based on information I get every day on Reddit
Just think, almost there
Who better to lead a circus than a clown?
Darn. Can we just fast forward 4 years?
For JD Vance 2028?
Darn. I kinda feel the same as I did when the torture at Abhu Graib was revealed. Disappointed, but not surprised. This is what a significant portion of America wants. Oh well. All empires decay and get more abusive on their way down.
Democrats and some of the left parties in Europe have to look themselves in the mirror and think what is the policy average men wants?Seems there is disconnect between left higher ups and ordinary people.Ofcourse right will capitalize on that.
For those wondering who would vote Trump? Here's a quick read for yall that I loved from class:
It explains a lot even if it doesn't even get to the disenfranchised people
If the Democrats don't run on economic populism, they will continue to lose elections.
Trump ran on economic chaos.
Well... That's not good.
I'm seeing takes saying "dem elites still don't know what the average voter wants", and I'm like... no, that's not the problem here. Sure, no candidate or campaign is perfect and i'm certain smarter people than me will uncover plenty of reasons 'what and why went wrong for Harris', but I think there is something more fundamental that's broken in American society. To vote overwhelmingly for this man, after this shitshow of a campaign, with utterly nonsensical claims and ramblings, vile comments, objectively untenable pledges, obvious signs of dementia and a barrage of lies, is just not something that should happen with a healthy electorate. Heck, if e.g. JD Vance won in a similar fashion after a professional, classically populist campaign with immigration and the (percieved) state of the economy as his core issues, I wouldn't say anything.
Disclaimer: I'm not American, but i'm not writing this from a condescending point of view. I'm Hungarian, where we elected similar shitbag Orbán four times in a row with supermajority. (Who is no doubt elated right now, which makes my mood even worse). Although even he is an exceptionally skilled politician, we're not any better for allowing that.
So I don't believe it comes down to detached elites, unpopular wokism or the lack of primaries. It's that democrats are still trying to play the game of old-school politics, while in the present, politics has devolved into a cult-building exercise. It's not like that's a completely new thing - I mean it already happened in 2016 - but this is its most extreme manifestation yet. Skills, policies, connection to reality - they're insignificant compared to the ability to get people to believe in the Great Leader. If you have that, it doesn't matter anymore if the Great Leader is too inept to even play the role of a responsible politician well.
And to be honest, even if we ended up with a 2020 result, just edging out Trump, this situation would still persist: people vote for Trumpism because they want to believe in Trumpism, not because they actually care how it will affect their lives. We'll see what Trump actually achieves in the White House, it might not be as bad as we fear now (after all, we survived a term already), but with a full Congress and Supreme court in their hands, the Republicans have the perfect opportunity to deepen this break in society. And the scariest part for me is, this break will far outlast Trump, unless there is a cure to be found. This will be the main (and most difficult) task of the next four years of the Democrats (...before they inevitably end up with a centrist, establishment candidate again since they won't understand this.)
The electorate are a bunch of short term memory idiots.
I honestly don't think that we are capable of electing a woman. We are physically incapable of it, especially a POC one.
I am so over this country. Won't contest the results or rush to storm the Capitol, though.
This country really hates women and would rather elect a wannabe dictator
The left runs on hatred against men, why would you vote a left candidate woman if you are a man.
the meltdown has been amazing. Never change yall. MAGA
Once you accept how dumb and selfish the avg person is - the trump victory makes more sense. There are a lot of non selfish and smart people too but the average person is dumb and selfish. Even some Kamala voters were voting for dumb reasons. it's all that simple - go find you a friend/partner that isn't a dumb selfish idiot.
Anyone watching MSNBC? Anthony Coley is on fire right now, talking about racism and sexism playing a role in Harris' loss. I feel him 100%. He's so angry.
"Democrats cannot fail, they can only be failed" - msnbc, every time the DNC eats shit
What a waffle stomp
Democrats have a major turn out issue. Rural areas have a major education issue, and cannot filter out the misinformation and disinformation, which is the foundation of the MAGA cult.
This will go down as one of the darkest days in American history. I'm not sure this country will ever recover, but it'll take decades at a minimum. Many people will die. This will have hugely negative ramifications for the rest of the world. Once again, the USA will lose standing in the global stage, and become the laughing stock of many other global leaders.
We have a treasonous convicted felon and male feminist set to become President of the most powerful nation on earth in just over two months. Who has sentencing for his felonies in a few weeks. Who's cognitive decline is well documented. Who political scholars have ranked as the worst president of all time. This is fricking insane.
I fear so much for the people of Palestine and Ukraine, for women, for the LGBTQ community, for the working class, for all our minorities. If you're a white male billionaire, congratulations; you'll be fine (unless this re-elected idiot gets us into a nuclear war). For everyone else, this is one of the darkest days of our lives.
Can you believe we tricked you guys into thinking project 2025 wasn't real? Lol
Reminder that the next president election is in 4 years but the midterms are only two. I know it sounds da crazy to already talk about it, but if you really are upset by tonight's election you need to advocate. I'm from a liberal state so I feel like I'm in a bubble, but Dems need to stop wasting time labeling the other side as pure "nazis" and get to the root of what people are concerned about, economy. This overrules everything. Take the economy and lay out a plan and truly ELI5 to the masses on why placing high tariffs won't save them and why things like going after price gouging will ultimately be what helps. Enough of the old talking points. And also as a woman I hate to say it…, America isn't ready for a woman president and won't be for a while. It is what it is.
We need to deal with the immigrants violently hurt opposition and get rid of democratic elections doesn't sound nazi though you're right
I'm not in anyway advocating for the vitriol that Trump has spouted. Trust me I am disgusted by the things that come out of that man's mouth. All I'm saying is that it is VERY clear now, that a large population takes these comments with a massive grain of salt and think " Oh Trump is just being silly again". They don't hold the weight of these comments as they should, and hold more weight in things like economy. Look at the numbers of Latinx that voted for him… our methods are falling short.
Welp Reddit, the echo chamber failed. Your fear mongering failed. Your bs failed. Everything you tried to say about Trump? Failure.
You made your bed. Not you can lay in it. Cry. Seethe. Can't wait for 4 years of prosperity.
Notice how there's not a single post to be seen on the front page on Trump's victory lol
I don't know how much of a difference it truly made, but I'd like to thank Obama for coming out on the 11th hour to talk down to black men as if they're stupid children who need to be told how to vote "correctly". Maybe it didn't make much of difference, maybe it did. Either way, thank you for helping us, Obama.
Everyone is making long lists of mistakes Dems made but it's not that complicated, it was just the price of groceries. It's that simple. The economy was the number one issue in virtually every exit poll.
Americans felt like the economy is doing terrible and that inflation is too high and are too intellectually lazy to actually check the data that by all metrics we have a historically great economy under Biden, the strongest in the world by far, and the data that shows that we have recovered from the global issue of inflation faster than anyone in the world and are back to a pre-pandemic but post 2016 level of 2.4%. They just go to the grocery store and things cost more than they did before the pandemic and picked the Apprentice businessman billionaire guy because he must be good at economy.
The majority aren't plugged in to the nuance and minutiae and everyday online debates, they don't even understand how the government functions. They don't know anything about policy, they pay exactly zero attention to anything outside of inadvertently catching a few headlines here and there and seeing memes. What they do know is how much groceries cost and do not care about why they are more expensive or real about solutions, they just don't like it and go for the other guy. And they are yet again going to live through a Republican exploding the deficit and wrecking the economy and forget about it 1-2 cycles from now. Then eventually a Democrat will fix it again and they'll forget about that in 1-2 cycles. The majority do not actually care about a goddarned thing unless it affects them directly and grocery prices do in a very direct way.
Kamala couldn't have ran a better campaign than she did considering the timeline. Leftists sitting out because of Gaza didn't make an appreciable difference. A Dem primary would not have made an appreciable difference. Kamala shifting further left would have not have made an appreciable difference (it probably would have made her lose worse). Going on Rogan wouldn't have made an appreciable difference. No amount of charts and graphs and correct information would have made an appreciable difference. Kamala had a far superior ground game, more funding, more ads, a higher favorability rating and everything else a candidacy would need to win but it didn't make a difference.
The only thing that would have would be the impossible tasks of making Americans in mass capable of paying attention to anything out of their immediate day to day lives or getting the third of the people that agree with 80% the Democratic platform 80% of the time but can't be bothered to spend an afternoon paying attention and standing in line for one day every 4 years to actually grow up and do their civic duty.
I've been watching the same shit repeat over and over my whole life, the only difference is this time we ended up with a true dyed in the wool authoritarian regime getting all the keys to the kingdom, like all the keys. POTUS, Senate, likely the House, plus 2-3 more Supreme Court appointments and loads of lower Court appointments, and law enforcement and the most powerful military that has ever existed, and an information ecosystem dominated and controlled by right wing tech billionaires for good measure.
Trump is a convicted felon, attempted a coup, is a male feminist, talked on multiple occasions about wanting to frick his daughter, he's petty and stupid, vindictive and ignorant, worships the dictators while bashing our allies, thinks climate change is a hoax, bitches non-stop about how unfair everything is to him personally, was Epstein's literal best friend, stole nuclear documents and stored them in an unsecured bathroom, wants to arrest political rivals and journ*lists, wants to mass deport millions of people, wants to give police full immunity for anything they do, and all of that but people overlooked it to because they felt like the economy is bad because food cost more. Everything else is small margins one way or the other that ultimately wouldn't have changed the outcome. This wasn't a small victory for Trump, it was a blowout.
Eggs cost too much and are about to get even more expensive because Americans have been too comfortable for too long and it's made us take what we have for granted and become collectively stupid.
