I won't call it likely but if Trump really runs up the margins in states like CA and NY, then he's got a shot. That's part of the reason for his recent rallies in those states, apart from shoring up competitive House seats, he's aiming for the popular vote.

If Trump manages to get the polling margin nationally just a point closer on Election Day, his history of over performing the polls should place him at a decent chance of actually pulling a 0-1 percent win. Right now based on the numbers and statistics I'd say there is a 20-30 percent chance he does.

Both candidates have made it clear that they will support Israel's escalating warmongering, so it's not really clear to me why the author thinks one of them will avoid nuclear war. Decorum won't keep nukes on the ground when the policies are to escalate conflict.

And honestly it's irrelevant if the President doesn't support them, as Congress keeps allocating funds anyway. If you press your legislators to stop funding Israel's efforts, then it doesn't really matter how much a President supports them.

Treat the cause, not the symptom.

Biden has repeatedly invoked emergency powers to bypass Congress when sending weapons and other aid to Israel. I think this idea is directly contradicted by the reality of the past year.

Those are weapons sales not funding. There's a difference.

Congress allocates funding for military assistance to Israel. This does not get allocated in cash, it's done essentially as a Lockheed-Martin/Raytheon gift card, redeemable at any of our wonderful Military-Industrial Complex distributors only.

Israel then uses that gift card to purchase weapons from these companies. Because of the way the US laws are written, the Executive branch, via DOD, executes the transfer of those weapons and facilitation of those sales. Congress has the option (but not requirement) to review and approve or disapprove those sales. Generally they don't bother, and it just happens.

However the money being spent on those sales has already been allocated by Congress.

If Congress never allocates the funding, then Israel would need to spend their own money out of their own national budget in order to purchase. Likely at that point, since Congress would have taken an explicit stance on not funding military weapons to Israel by not appropriating it, Congress would step in and disallow the weapons sales. This has yet to happen.
