3rd world: We do not trust the doctors because we know our own kid got in after paying a few hundred thousand bucks and was likely just either bullying or getting bullied throughout college before getting the degree.

That's why you make sure at least one person in your family gets through on merit and they become the family doctor.

You still do not understand. You must understand what it's like to be at 5th place and racing to be number 1 as fast as humanly possible.

You have entire generations you take in and brute force as much knowledge via memorization as you can. Rinse and repeat what already works in the more successful country. You aren't racing to invent new things or stop to try new ideas. You are simply racing to repeat the entire cycle that the other guy already completed. A multigenerational speedrun. There is no soul to it. Just a constant push whose memory will stick for 2-3 generations after the race has already been won. Then the peak will be reached and the rest comes.

This is all unrelated to what you said, we make sure one person becomes the family doctor because a doctor is considered a truly prestigious position in our country.

The three jobs we look up to:

  1. Doctor

  2. Lawyer

  3. Military officer
