Groomercord is just worse for any sort of QA too. The search index is butt so you have to ask a question and hope it doesnt get lost in the chat between turbo neurodivergents fighting over whatever bullshit they're talking about.

I once witnessed a 2 day meltdown over rice polishing

How? And why?

In a sake brewing groomercord some guy joined and immediately started arguing with everyone about polishing rice.
There are two schools of thought on polishing rice grains: flat polishing and spherical. Flat polishing is the old way used for centuries where the grains get polished against a millstone. It has pros and cons but is necessary to replicate traditional tastes.
The second way is spherical where the rice is polished in special machines to be, well, spherical. It leads to more predictable brewing I think.
So he starts arguing with anyone and everyone that the one TRUE way to polish is spherical. And then he had a whole butt fit when he learned some guys made their own polishing machine. How reckless! You can't possibly run a grinding wheel without maiming yourself!
And nothing will sway him from either argument and he kept going for two days

At least it was on topic and seething at the traditional method makes you a based contrarian.

Not really. No one else is in one camp or the other, you use one method or the other depending on which outcome you want.
Japan has a bunch of academic departments that study rice so there's entire research papers documenting precisely what happens to the rice.
It has a lot to do with flavoring the sake. The koji mold you innoculate the rice with needs moisture which is found in the central protein in the rice. Differentlynpolished rice leads to differt koji propagation which affects the flavor.

I get that but food and drink meltdowns tend to be in support of old thing good new thing bad not the reverse.

Every time I have ever wandered into any sort of hobby groomercord I always just see the same handful of hyper spergs making up the bulk of the "discussion" and everyone else is just logged in but obviously afk or playing a game. I just use it for game chat with people I know in real life.

Never mind the search, the problem is Groomercord is a chat service designed for synchronous communication, so you'll only get an answer if someone knows right there and then. There is no separation between questions and answers, no separation between different questions (no one uses threads because they suck butt), no way to surface old, unanswered questions, no way to hide dumb shit, etc. Slack, IRC, same shit, different potty. And then you have the problem of finding stuff that's been previously answered.
To use programming as an example, if your question pertains to a simple, entry-level question which preferably involves some flavor-of-the-month popular framework, you're in luck. Anything more complicated, possibly using a less-than-ubiquitous module, you're SoL. And with Copilot and ChatGPT this is only going to get worse.
