Does bluesky suck?

You've probably heard about X changing how the block feature works which really is a nothing burger but it seems libtards have taken the chance to bring out something more serious imo which is X's rules regarding the way they use your intellectual property (basically they can use your stuff without paying you royalties and they can use it for AI), I don't really care that much about that because I'm not a big artist but the artcels over at twitter are (kind of understandably) upset by it and a lot of them are creating bluesky accounts, which has already happened in the past but didn't do much imo, except this time even japanese artists are freaking out and creating bluesky accounts which as someone who follows a shit ton of japanese artists I must say that for them to jump ship you must've fricked up hard since in my experience they are not as involved in American politics so they don't care about the "X is owned/full of Nazis you should leave" fear mongering, but this time my notifications are full of japanese artists creating bluesky accounts (granted, most of them are planning to still post on Twitter, the just want to have other options just in case)

So here's where I gotta ask, is it worth it? Does anyone have experience with an account there? People usually say it full of wingcucks but they also say that about Twitter and to be honest I rarely if ever get political shit on my Twitter unless it's the occasional tweet from one of the artists I follow but in general I only get art posts and shit like that, it's bluesky that way as well so that I don't have to come across constant politisperging every other post? Also since it's the liberal alternative, is it full of moral busybodies bugging people for making art they don't like or is it more chill? Needless to say I'm asking this from an artcel perspective since while I'm not leaving twitter I'd like to keep up with other social media alternatives to post my art and bluesky is the one you heard about the most lately

I want to know that, too. I rarely use Twitter, I just follow a handful of Japanese Eevee artists and post my own "art" there sometimes. The ToS change doesn't bother me, but the artstrags I like considering moving to Bluesky and Misskey do.

That said, I tried :marseytrain2:sky for a few minutes today. Most of the stuff in my main feed were from people I just followed and their "retweets", had to scroll down a bit to see shit I don't care about (found no political posts, but I stopped scrolling shortly after). Doesn't seem like there's a "not interested in this post" button or an algorithm like Twitter at all. Artists probably have to rely on RTs to get their stuff around.

So far, it looks like it sucks for finding new artstrags I'd be interested in (compared to Twitter), but not so bad if I only want to check on the ones I'm following. Xitter is still better for me, as long as the artists I follow don't all leave and the algorithm mostly shows me stuff I wanna see.

I don't mind the TOS either but a big chunk of my Twitter following are other artists and if they start leaving I gotta at least try to have an account in that space if I want to grow my online presence

I think this is also the case on Twitter since most of my following comes from retweets, also didn't twitter recently make it so that people can't see your likes? That would mean only RTs will get you attention

Regardless, I also think twitter is better for me for now but based on what you say it seems it's possible to have a Bluesky account without having to deal with the other side of the wingcuck coin so it seems worth a try, I'll wait a bit for the initial scare to pass to see if my engagement on Twitter is affected but in that case I'll def give bluesky a shot, thanks for the input

Seeing other people's likes was actually how I found most of the artists I follow today. That change sucked for me, but the Twitter algorithm is currently being alright. Maybe I'm just getting lucky :marseyshrug:

Bluesky is probably worth trying if you're looking to grow your online presence. But I can't accurately say how easy it is to avoid wingcucks yet. I don't plan on posting my art there anytime soon and I'm waiting to see how the Twitter change will affect my feed :marseybluecheck:

I do know that the Japanese tend to be overly hysterical about this sort of stuff, one I knew even wiped his account already :marseyyikes: But like you said, most are planning on staying. Though if they do migrate to Bluesky, then I hope they keep acting like they do on Twitter. I mostly follow them because they rarely, if ever, post art with tiresome political/:marseytrain2: shit attached, or even mention that crap.

Bluesky is just Truth Social for Democrats. You really need people arguing with each other to make a social network kino.

Is it the same or worst than twitter before musk bought it? Because I could handle pre musk twitter but if bluesky is pre musk twitter on steroids I'm not so sure

At least on my feed there's an anti-drama culture. An agreement that people aren't going to fight over the same things they did on twitter. Not to quote tweet people, not to feed trolls, etc. Sad. I loved seeing raw mental illness between pictures of big furry men fricking each other. Still sometimes see random bitching abt trump tho.

This is what I want, I know people here love seen r-slurs fighting but since I want to get a following for my art I'd like to avoid politics on my account/feed and stay way from the SJWs

It's just that whenever I think of bluesky I'm reminded of the twitter Nessa incident (the one where twittards bullied a japanese artists cuz he drew a Pokemon character with a slightly lighter skin tone) and it seems that same type of people moved to bluesky when Elon bought twitter and as an artist that worries me
