Studies on nicotine are showing
a cognitive benefit for people with ADD. My theory 
on the surge of people getting diagnosed since the 90s or so is the decline in cigarette 
usage. Before 
we figured out inhaling tar, chemicals, and ingesting tobacco-specific nitrosamines causes cancer 
everyone 
was smoking 
so the symptoms of ADD were masked 
due to them being unintentionally treated.
