Even just 100 years ago for a decently well-off/average person food was far more scarce, electricity wasn't widespread, heating was done by fireplace, they didn't really own possessions other than hand-me-down furniture, and all the clothes they owned could probably fit it a suitcase.

Currently the average westoid's hardest experiences are mild inconveniences. Every time they get inconvenienced their brain interprets it as the worst thing that ever happened to them.
And yes I unironically believe that this is the reason everyone is so depressed. Life is way too easy, people need occasional conflict to be happy
