It's a slick looking accessory for a well dressed man or a woman just like holding a cocktail is (I mean classic cocktails, not mudslides or brightly colored shit). Old movies implanted this in our brains, maybe?

Unhealthy behavior for personal gain is risk taking behavior. Risk taking behavior is a display of testosterone.

No different than starting fights, cliff diving, whatever. Risk taking behavior in men is sexy because it separates competent men worthy of reproduction from incompetent men that take the risk and fail.
