And I think the Egyptians had the problem that their commandos had done well in 1973 but they were basically on suicide missions so after that they didn't have many experienced guys left.

Hostage rescue is also an exceptionally difficult and skill intensive mission very different from more traditional commando work. There's a select few units even today that are good at it.
